In the wake of Liam Payne ’s tragic passing, his ex-fiancée Maya Henry’s latest interviews are being scrutinized for clues about Payne’s mental health. The police have not yet ruled whether his death was accidental or intentional, but news that 911 was called because of Payne’s disruptive behavior has led fans to hyper-focus on anything that could provide a clue as to Payne’s behavior before his tragic passing.

Henry, who broke off her engagement to Payne in 2022 due to his cheating, claimed in the latest episode of ‘The Internet is Dead’ podcast that Payne would often predict his death. Henry also called out Payne’s manipulative tactics. She took legal action against him last week, issuing a cease-and-desist letter after accusing him of repeatedly contacting her and her family.

What did Payne tell Henry before his death? Did he predict what was going to happen?

Liam Payne’s last words before death

Henry went into details on the podcast, talking about how Payne kept messaging her after their breakup, explaining how messages were a variation of “Oh, I’m not well,” and adding that “He would always play with death and be like, ‘Well, I’m going to die. I’m not doing well.’”

“There was one time I tried to get him help and then he was not taking it,” Henry continued, adding that the cycle kept repeating. “He would text my mom, ‘I’m not doing well, have Maya contact me,’ because I wouldn’t respond.”

In May, Henry released a book, Looking Forward , inspired by true events. One of the accounts from the book seems to indicate the singer reached out to Henry’s mom saying “I’m not going to be around much longer.”

For Henry, these words were no joke, which she made clear in the podcast. “I don’t play with death. If you say this, I’m going to try and help you no matter what you’ve done. I think he took advantage of my family’s kindness.” Payne’s ex also made it clear the singer’s mental health was concerning, saying he’d “gotten so much worse.” She didn’t go into details, likely because of the fact that she’d already taken legal action, but did recall Payne saying: ‘I’m so sorry for everything I’ve done. I can’t live with myself,’ but then is continuing to try and traumatize me.”

Payne had been open about his struggles with addiction during his time in One Direction . Henry also recalled how she tried to get Payne into rehab. “I know the lifestyle he lives, and there is a day when something bad is going to happen, so I would always be like, ‘OK, he’s saying these things, I have to help him because if I don’t, I won’t be able to live with myself if something does happen to him,” she said. But ultimately, the influencer could not help Payne, it was up to him to help himself.

Henry has not made any public statement about Payne’s death.

The former One Direction band member was in Argentina to attend a Niall Horan concert. He passed away after falling from a hotel balcony in the neighborhood of Palermo, in Buenos Aires. Authorities in Argentina have said they will perform an autopsy and investigate the causes of his death.
