BWI flights canceled, delayed; Maryland issues partial state of emergency over Microsoft outage
BALTIMORE -- The Maryland Department of Emergency Management increased the State Activation Level from Normal to Partial on Friday morning in response to a Microsoft outage that has paralyzed systems worldwide, including some at BWI Airport.The agency says Partial activation is for "an incident or event requiring significant monitoring or resources," meaning there is additional Emergency Operations Center staffing from other agencies and organizations. Banks, airlines, television networks and health systems across the world are impacted by the outage. BETTERTON — Residents may resume normal beach activities including swimming, watersports, and fishing. According to the Kent County Health Department results from the latest samples at Betterton Beach are at an acceptable level for bathing. As of 5 p.m., July 18, the beach was re-opened to the public. Around noon on Wednesday, the Health Department shut down Betterton Beach due to a sewage leak from one of the pump stations. ...

Over 3 million steam cleaners recalled due to burn hazard
BALTIMORE, MD—Millions of steam cleaners are being recalled because they can expel hot water or steam onto users while heating or during use, posing a burn hazard. This recall involves multiple models of the BISSELL Steam Shot Handheld Steam Cleaners in the model series 39N7 and 2994. “STEAM SHOT” or “POWER STEAMER” is printed on the side of the product. The model numbers are printed on the product rating label located on the bottom of the unit. Colors include green, pink, blue, orange, white, black, purple and red.
