    Suffolk County Industrial Development Agency

Prior to being appointed executive director and CEO of the Suffolk County Industrial Development Agency in April, Kelly Murphy served as acting executive director following the retirement of Anthony Catapano in June of 2023.

Throughout her nine-year tenure at the Suffolk IDA, she has helped close 107 transactions that are responsible for more than $1.4 billion in private capital investment as well as the creation or retention of about 7,300 jobs with a combined annual payroll of $1.6 billion. Murphy is also the executive director/CEO of the Suffolk County Economic Development Corporation, which helps nonprofit corporations in their expansion or acquisition of capital projects.

An 18-year veteran in the public sector, Murphy has been tasked with a variety of strategic initiatives over the course of her career. She has built strong relationships with key stakeholders in government, business and local communities. She is the project lead for the Suffolk IDA’s regional planning efforts, which aim to spur investment in and around the county’s downtowns and train stations.

Prior to her IDA appointment, Murphy served as assistant to Suffolk County’s deputy county executive and commissioner of economic development and planning. She previously served the City of Glen Cove as executive director of its Community Development Agency and Industrial Development Agency for eight years. In those capacities, she oversaw the $1 billion mixed-use redevelopment of the 214-acre Garvies Point waterfront project.

Murphy is a board member of the Suffolk County Workforce Development Board. She also serves on the Long Island Regional Economic Development Council’s workforce and education committee and the board of the HIA-LI.
