    Long Island unemployment rate inches higher

    The Long Island unemployment rate ticked upward last month as compared with the same time last year.

    The not-seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate for Long Island in Junewas 3.3 percent, up from 3.1 percent in June 2023, according to preliminary numbers from the New York State Department of Labor.

    The Junenot-seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate for Nassau County was 3.2 percent and the rate for Suffolk County was 3.4 percent last month, the DOL reports.

    The state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.2 percent in June, the same as it was the previous month.

    The Bronx (6.8 percent) had the highest unemployment rate in the state in June, followed by Brooklyn (5.6 percent); Staten Island (4.9 percent); Manhattan (4.7 percent); and Queens (4.7 percent).

    Columbia County had the state’s lowest unemployment rate in June at 2.8 percent, followed by Saratoga County at 3 percent.
