One person was killed and another seriously injured after they were struck by cars in separate incidents in Suffolk County on Wednesday, police said. Around 10:30 p.m., a 54-year-old man was crossing Fifth Avenue at Kirk Road in Brentwood when he was struck by a northbound 1998 Nissan Pathfinder. The pedestrian, whose name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was taken to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore, where he was pronounced dead, Suffolk police said.

Tragedy in Shirley: Man Dies in Apparent Drowning at Smith Point County Park
Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the death of a man who was pulled from the water in Shirley on Sunday, July 14. Seventh Precinct officers responded to Outer Beach at Smith Point County Park at approximately 3:55 p.m. after good Samaritans pulled an unresponsive man from the water.
