The Suffolk County Police Department is advising motorists of rolling road closures for the Wounded Warrior Soldier Ride on July 19. The ride will begin at Babylon Town Hall on Sunrise Highway in Lindenhurst at 9:30 a.m. The ride will travel along portions of Sunrise Highway, Hoffman Avenue, Route 110, Montauk Highway, Wellwood Avenue, Little East Neck Road and the Robert Moses Causeway.
Tow Truck Operator Hit By MV In Huntington Station
Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that seriously injured a tow truck operator in Huntington Station this afternoon. Leonel Guillen Avila was driving a 2009 Honda Civic southbound on 9th Ave. when his vehicle struck a tow truck operator who was hooking up a disabled vehicle to a tow truck, owned by Auto Houndz, which was parked on the shoulder in front of 65 9th Ave., at 3:34 p.m.
Pedestrian killed in Brentwood; tow-truck driver seriously hurt in Huntington Station
One person was killed and another seriously injured after they were struck by cars in separate incidents in Suffolk County on Wednesday, police said. Around 10:30 p.m., a 54-year-old man was crossing Fifth Avenue at Kirk Road in Brentwood when he was struck by a northbound 1998 Nissan Pathfinder. The pedestrian, whose name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was taken to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore, where he was pronounced dead, Suffolk police said.

An air quality alert was issued in effect until Tuesday at 11 p.m. for Suffolk and Nassau counties. "An Air Quality Health Advisory remains in effect for the following counties: Nassau and Suffolk until 11 p.m. this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of ground level ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease.
