The City of Suffolk has announced a public comment period on the Draft Phase III Chesapeake Bay Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) Action Plan.

Public input for the comprehensive action plan will be open from Friday, Oct. 11 through Monday, Oct. 28. The plan has been developed in compliance with the 2023-2028 General Permit for Discharges of Stormwater from Small Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems (Phase II MS4 Permit). The plan addresses the nutrient reduction requirements for the Chesapeake Bay, following guidance set by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) in their Chesapeake Bay TMDL Action Plan Guidance Document, which was dated Nov. 12, 2020.

Suffolk community members are encouraged to provide feedback by submitting their comments. Residents can either email hbaggett@suffolkva.us or mail to the Department of Public Works, Attention Heather Baggett, 442 West Washington St, Suffolk, VA 23434. Comments must be received by Monday, Oct. 28.

To view the draft action plan, go to www.suffolkva.us/MS4 . For more information, contact the Department of Public Works at 757-514-7725.
