The family of C. Faye Tillery is continuing their mission to honor her life by helping the youth. Presented by the C. Faye Tillery Fund, the 11th Annual C. Faye Tillery Youth Volunteer Scholarship is currently available for Suffolk students who participate in volunteering in the community daily.

A former employee of Suffolk Parks and Recreation, Tillery worked to inspire youth to be the best they can be until her passing in 1998 from her battle with cervical cancer. Tillery’s family continues her legacy by giving back to the youth through the C. Faye Tillery Christmas Adoption, Back to School Giveaway, and Scholarship Luncheon, which is set for April 6 at the Hilton Garden Inn Suffolk Riverfront.

To apply, students must complete the scholarship application (online or printed), include a one page essay detailing what makes them a scholarship candidate and have a Letter of Recommendation from a personal reference such as a teacher, pastor or barber. Likewise, students will participate in an in-person interview sharing their volunteer work with the C. Faye Tillery Scholarship Fund Committee. Students must be between the ages of 8 and 18 to apply for the scholarship.

The deadline for the scholarship application is Saturday, Feb. 10. For more information or to apply, go to cfayetilleryfund.org.
