Suffolk Va. – Keep Suffolk Beautiful announced the return of the Great Suffolk Cleanup, scheduled for March 22 and March 23, 2024, across the city. As part of a larger nationwide initiative, the Great American Cleanup, this two-day citywide endeavor aims to clear litter and debris from streets, neighborhoods, and parks. Last year, thousands of Suffolk volunteers from various sectors joined forces, removing over two thousand bags of trash and nearly one thousand tires.

City Manager Al Moor spearheads this citywide beautification initiative, expressing his hope to establish The Great Suffolk Cleanup as an annual tradition. He emphasizes the importance of community participation and encourages civic organizations, businesses, families, and individuals to contribute.

“I hope to make The Great Suffolk Cleanup an annual tradition,” Moor said in a press release. “Your participation is invaluable, whether young or young at heart, you can make a difference. Once again, our city staff is participating, but we need the entire community to chip in—civic organizations, businesses, families, and individuals.I plan to be back out on Wilroy Road again.”

The cleanup initiative welcomes participation from City of Suffolk employees during their workday on Friday, with local groups and individuals encouraged to join on either day. Registered participants receive necessary equipment for litter collection, and Suffolk Public Works ensures proper trash disposal.

Interested volunteers can register online at www.suffolkva.us/cleanup. For further assistance, contact the Suffolk Litter Control team at Littercontrol@suffolkva.us or call 757-514-7604.
