Suffolk News-Herald won the 2023 Advertising Sweepstakes award for excellence in advertising from the Virginia Press Association’s annual awards banquet in Charlottesville on May 4. In addition, SNH earned 23 individual and staff awards in the news and advertising contest for entries published between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2023.

The banquet, an annual statewide gathering of journalists and advertising professionals, was held at The Omni Charlottesville Hotel in Charlottesville.

The newspaper competes in the VPA’s Non-Daily 4 category against some of Virginia’s largest weekly publications. The awards were judged by journalists and advertising professionals from Missouri.

Our page designer, Jen Jaqua, received nine of the 23 awards, including three individual first-place nods and one she shared with our staff reporter James Robinson.

Publisher Lindsay Richardson also won two first-place awards, one in the Food and Drug advertising category.

Troy Cooper, the designer of our Suffolk Living magazine, received a first-place award for Design and Presentation. The magazine won three awards in total.
