    Suffolk announces closures in observance of Juneteenth

    In observance of Juneteenth, the City of Suffolk announced office closings for Wednesday, June 19, 2024. Normal operations will resume on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at 8:30 a.m. The city observes all state-designated holidays, and Juneteenth is recognized as a holiday in the Commonwealth of Virginia, with all state offices closed.

    The Suffolk Public Works Department will maintain its trash collection schedule from June 20 to June 21. TFC Recycling will also follow its regular collection routes during this period. Residents are reminded to place trash at the curbside by 7 a.m. on the day of collection. For more information, contact Public Works at 757.514.7630.

    The Southeastern Public Service Authority (SPSA) Transfer Station and Regional Landfill in Suffolk will be closed on Wednesday, June 19.

    Suffolk Transit will operate on its regular schedule on Wednesday, June 19.

    All Suffolk Joint Use Recreation Centers, including Kings Fork, Creekside, Northern Shores, Oakland, Booker T. Washington, and Mack Benn, Jr., will be closed on June 19 and will reopen on June 20 at 6:30 a.m. The East Suffolk Recreation Center, Curtis Milteer Recreation Center, and Bennett’s Creek Recreation Center will be closed on June 19 and will reopen on June 20 at 6 a.m. The Suffolk Parks & Recreation Administration Office will be closed on June 19 and will reopen on June 20 at 8:30 a.m.

    Suffolk’s four major parks—Lone Star Lakes, Lake Meade, Sleepy Hole, and Bennett’s Creek—will remain open on June 19, but no park attendants will be on duty.

    The Suffolk Art Gallery will be closed on June 19 and will reopen on June 20 at 10 a.m.

    Cypress Park & Pool will be closed on June 19 and will reopen on June 22 at 2 p.m.

    All Suffolk City Libraries, including Morgan Memorial, North Suffolk, and Chuckatuck, will be closed on June 19 for Juneteenth. Morgan Memorial and North Suffolk Libraries will reopen on June 20 at 10 a.m., while the Chuckatuck Library will reopen on June 24 at 10 a.m.

    The Suffolk Visitor Center will be open on June 19 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Suffolk Seaboard Station Railroad Museum will be closed until further notice for major repairs.

    The Suffolk Executive Airport terminal will be unmanned on June 19. However, the airfield, self-service fuel island, and restaurant will remain open.
