The City of Suffolk announced that the 30-day warning period for Red Light Enforcement Cameras for Main St. and Constance Rd. has been initiated. Drivers caught violating red lights will be issued a cautionary letter to their residences during this warning period. Starting July 21, violators will be issued a $50.00 fine.

When drivers make a left or right turn at a red light safety monitored intersection, they should be aware of these procedures:

When a vehicle is completely within the intersection during the time the light turns red, a violation will not be issued.

For right turns, a red light violation occurs when a driver fails to come to a complete stop behind the limit line before making a right turn. Likewise, motorists should only proceed with a right turn after coming to a complete stop and ensuring that it is safe to proceed.

For right turns with a “No Turn On Red” sign, a red light violation occurs when a driver completes a right turn at the intersection before the signal turns green for that direction.

For left turns, red light violations occur if drivers fail to come to a complete stop behind the limit line when the controlling signal becomes red. Likewise, motorists should proceed with a left turn only when the signal turns green and it is safe to proceed.
