July opened with Suffolk giving a warm summer welcome to Mathnasium.

Located at 5840 Harbour View Blvd, the learning center provides math-only instruction for K-12 students, focusing on the belief that any child can excel in mathematics. Using the Mathnasium Method , a proprietary system that combines mental, verbal, visual, tactile, and written techniques to help children understand the subject, Mathnasium is one of the fastest growing education franchises, with over 1,000 centers worldwide. Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Mathnasium Owner and Center Director Thomas Seymour discussed their mission to help students with their math education.

“We believe that math is really the key to problem solving, developing youth and becoming productive citizens, productive adults,” Seymour said. “There’s so many children who are behind: with COVID, what with learning loss, especially here in the summer, and we’re happy to be here helping with those students and developing them.”

Seymour emphasized that the program aims to help students regardless of whether they are behind or ahead in their studies. He further discussed what Mathnasium offers with its program.

“We have an individualized learning plan that we put together with each student, so we can meet every student where they are,” Seymour said. “So there’s nothing kind of pre-packaged for anybody. They come in, we do a free assessment for them, takes maybe an hour or so, and then we put together the learning plan and we proceed through that. We have instructors who help, we have one of our instructors here, Jessica, and they facilitate the learning.”
