In honor of this year’s National Night Out, the City of Suffolk held a special presentation in recognition of the upcoming August celebration.

Held at the council’s July 17 meeting, Director of Media and Community Relations and Suffolk National Night Out Committee Chair Jennifer Moore was joined alongside Mayor Michael D. Duman, Police Chief James “Danny” Buie, Fire Chief Michael J. Barakey and National Night Out’s Nat the Knight to accept the proclamation of Aug. 6 as National Night Out.

Following the reading of this year’s proclamation, Moore invited the Suffolk community to this year’s NNO.

“Many communities, civic leagues, homeowners associations and businesses will be joining in across the city on August 6 to participate. This year’s event will represent 24 host locations, eight tour routes and roughly 10,000 folks in attendance,” Moore said. “No one else in Hampton Roads celebrates like we do, evident by our ranking in the top ten nationwide for over a decade in our population category. Last year, Suffolk placed second. This year, we’re in a bigger population category and we’re eying that number one spot.”

Moore continued, noting NNO’s mission to strengthen the relationship between public safety officials and Suffolk citizens.

“We join together to celebrate [the] positive of what unites all of us, and not the negative of what we see and hear across the nation,” Moore said. “It’s important that we do this together, united, as one city.”
