SUMMARY: NEMCC Police Chief Jason Jackson recently organized an ALERRT (Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training) active shooter course for local officers in Booneville, Mississippi. The two-day training utilizes non-lethal simunition rounds to create realistic stress scenarios, helping officers prepare for real-life emergencies, including encounters with improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Jackson emphasized the importance of stress inoculation for effective response and highlighted ALERRT as a common language for law enforcement. Officers learn to remain calm under pressure, using the acronym LCAN for vital communication. The Prentiss County School District funded equipment for the drills, which also offer public classes.
