    Gonzalez, Haivala earn gold medals

    DENTON — The 1A Region III track and field meet was held at the University of North Texas this past weekend. Three Hopkins County schools — Miller Grove, Saltillo, and Sulphur Bluff — would all represent their schools well, with multiple high placings.

    MILLER GROVE

    Both the Miller Grove Hornets and Lady Hornets had multiple strong performances.

    On the boys side, Ryker Haivala earned two gold medals: placing first in both the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:34, and in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 10:03. Haivala advanced to state in both events for his efforts.

    Lane Wright placed sixth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:08.

    The 4x400-meter relay team, consisting of Haivala, Drew Lester, Yahir Santana, and Wright took eighth place with a time of 3:42.

    The 4x200-meter relay team, consisting of Eastin Christian, Ethan George, Cage Hasten, and Cannon Ramsey, placed 12th with a time of 1:42.

    Lester placed 12th in the pole vault with a height of eight feet, six inches. Santana placed 13th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:18.

    The 4x100-meter relay team, consisting of Mason Clements, George, Ramsey, and Jesse Yates placed 14th with a time of 48.43 seconds.

    On the girls side, Audrey Yates placed fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:39. She also placed 10th in the high jump with a height of four feet, six inches.

    Jamilyn Hensley placed sixth in the shot put throw with a distance of 29 feet, three inches. Kylie Hargrove took eighth place in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 14:39.

    Alaira Serrano placed ninth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:44. Paige Neidhart took ninth place in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 14:42. Neidhart also placed 15th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:57.

    The 4x400-meter relay team, consisting of Anna Culbertson, Hargrove, Neidhart, and Jaci Roberson placed 12th with a time of 4:53.

    The 4x200-meter relay team, consisting of Culbertson, Hensley, Roberson, and Bella Vaculik placed 14th with a time of 2:09.

    SALTILLO

    The Saltillo Lions and Lady Lions would both represent their school well at the Regional track and field meet.

    On the girls side, Jaelynn Miller had the highest placement, placing fifth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:05. Addi Pipkin placed ninth in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 6:21.

    The 4x400-meter relay team, consisting of Jasmine Alonso, Jamie Alvarez, Katie Olvera, and Pipkin placed 14th with a time of 5:08.

    The 4x100-meter relay team, consisting of Alvarez, Jaylee Miller, Harley Perez, and Ryleigh Redar placed 15th with a time of 58.49 seconds.

    The 4x200-meter relay team, consisting of Jaylee Miller, Olvera, Perez, and Redar placed 15th with a time of 2:10.

    On the boys side, Adrian Don Juan placed seventh in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 11:03. He also placed 11th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:16.

    Dakoda Womack placed eighth in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:03.

    SULPHUR BLUFF

    Both the Sulphur Bluff Bears and Lady Bears had great days, with multiple high placements.

    On the boys side, Christian Gonzalez earned a gold medal in the 800-meter run, placing first with a time of 2:02. Gonzalez also won a silver medal in the 1,600-meter run, placing second with a time of 4:38. Gonzalez advanced to state in both events.

    Landon Marroquin placed ninth in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 11:07. Marroquin also placed 12th in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:10.

    Ayden Johnson placed 11th in the shot put throw with a distance of 36 feet, one inch.

    Evan Carr placed 14th in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 21.76 seconds. He also placed 15th in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 50.01 seconds.

    The 4x400-meter relay team, consisting of Clint Degen, Mason Riddle, Marroquin, and Matthew Overly placed 14th with a time of 4:01. On the girls side, Bre-Anna Stanley placed seventh in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 54.42 seconds.

    Zaylee Peyton took seventh place in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 6:18. Peyton also placed 10th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:46.

    Emerson Fite placed 10th in the discus throw with a distance of 81 feet, one inch. Xavannah Gonzalez placed 13th in the shot put throw with a distance of 27 feet, one inch. Emma Carr placed 13th in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 58.32 seconds.

    The 4x200-meter relay team, consisting of Xiomara Escobar, Fite, Ana Servin, and Kinder Stanley placed 13th with a time of 2:08.

    The 4x400-meter relay team, consisting of Natalie Carrell, Yulisa Castillo, Fite, and Kinder Stanley placed 13th with a time of 4:55.

    Gonzalez and Haivala advanced to the State track and field meet, which will be May 4 for 6 at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin.
