    Lady Wildcats earn first place as a team

    Cross country season kicked off in Texas this past weekend, and multiple Hopkins County schools took part in the Clay Minton Invitational at Coleman Park. Each school would perform well, with multiple strong performances.

    SULPHUR SPRINGS

    The Sulphur Springs Lady Wildcats placed first in the varsity girls race, while the Wildcats finished as the runners-up in the varsity boys race.

    In the girls race, Edith Martinez highlighted the day, placing first individually and earning a gold medal with a time of 12:20. Abbey Williams also placed in the top-5, claiming fourth place with a time of 12:43.

    Jobey Williams took 15th place with a time of 13:46. Rounding out the results were Consuelo Martinez placing 21st with a time of 14:22, Isabelle Mejia placing 26th with a time of 14:39, Jolea Moore placing 29th with a time of 14:42 and Alexa Gonzalez placing 31st with a time of 14:45.

    On the boys side, Alonso Patino took top honors, placing fifth with a time of 19:04. Coming in second on the team was Brycen Baxter, who placed 13th with a time of 19:59.

    Rounding out the results were Gabe Mayo, 14th with a time of 20:01; Jaydon Conner, 16th with a time of 20:27 and Jacob Noe, 17th with a time of 20:29.

    COMO-PICKTON

    The Como-Pickton Lady Eagles placed 11th as a team, and the Eagles were represented by two runners.

    In the boys race, Cade Childress brought home a medal, placing 15th with a time of 20:15. The Eagles were also represented by Juan Hernandez, who placed 68th with a time of 25:27.

    On the girls side, Bianca Guerrero was the highest placing Lady Eagles, finishing 19th with a time of 14:13. Second on the team was Janey Stokley, who placed 36th with a time of 14:50.

    Rounding out the girls, results were Jaz Gutierrez, 46th with a time of 15:17,; Christina Neal, 59th with a time of 15:53; Kaylee Lavender, 77th with a time of 18:14; Angeles Hernandez, 79th with a time of 18:40; and Cristal Ramirez, 83rd with a time of 24:00.

    MILLER GROVE

    The Miller Grove Hornets took fifth place as a team, while the Lady Hornets didn’t have enough runners to yield a team score.

    On the boys side, Ryker Haivala highlighted the day, placing third and earning a bronze medal with a time of 17:59. Drew Lester was second on the team, placing 18th with a time of 20:35.

    Rounding out the results were Joseph Roberson, 31st with a time of 21:27; Cannon Ramsey, 41st with a time of 22:25; Jesse Yates, 42nd with a time of 22:26; Yahir Santana, 48th with a time of 22:57; and Yandel Santana, 67th with a time of 25:26.

    In the girls race, Kylie Hargrove was the highest placing Lady Hornet, placing 17th with a time of 14:09. Behind her was Kindle Fisher, who placed 28th with a time of 14:42. Rounding out the girls results were Rylie Stracener, 35th with a time of 14:49; and Paislie Reiber, 60th with a time of 15:55.

    NORTH HOPKINS

    The North Hopkins Panthers and Lady Panthers didn’t have enough runners for team scores, but that didn’t stop them from representing their school well.

    In the boys race, Juan Gonzales took 44th place with a time of 22:30. Brayden Brown also represented the Panthers, placing 83rd with a time of 27:35.

    On the girls side, top honors went to Ashley Shipman, who placed 18th with a time of 14:09. Also representing the Lady Panthers was Briana Fuentes, who placed 72nd with a time of 16:35.

    SULPHUR BLUFF

    The Sulphur Bluff Lady Bears placed eighth as a team, and the Bears finished 12th as a team.

    In the girls race, Zaylee Peyton took top honors, placing sixth with a time of 13:28. Second on the team was Vada Kendall, who placed 27th with a time of 14:40.

    Rounding out the results were Taylor Johnson, 40th with a time of 15:01; Ana Servin, 41st with a time of 15:04; Natalie Carrell, 44th with a time of 15:07; Kialey Johnson, 50th with a time of 15:31; Macy Stanley, 64th with a time of 16:08; and Emma Carr, 76th with a time of 17:33.

    On the boys side, Oscar Fernandez placed 40th with a time of 22:20. Second on the Bears was Hugo Hernandez, who placed 63rd with a time of 24:38.

    Rounding out the results were Denton Klemptner, 66th with a time of 25:25; Trace Caldwell, 77th with a time of 26:50; Dylan Byrd, 82nd with a time of 27:15; and Evan Dugnolle, 84th with a time of 27:56.
