Lady Bears play well in NH Tournament

Sulphur Bluff wins gold in silver bracket

BIRTHRIGHT — The Sulphur Bluff Lady Bears won the silver bracket title in the North Hopkins Tournament this past weekend. After losing two of their first three games, the Lady Bears rallied back to win their final three games, earning first place in their bracket.

In their first game, Aug. 22, the Lady Bears opened play against the Chisum Lady Mustangs. The Lady Bears suffered a two-set loss in that game, with set scores of 11-25 and 17-25.

The Lady Bears’ second game was played against the Savoy Lady Cardinals. Sulphur Bluff came out on top in three sets, with scores of 20-25, 25-11 and 25-18.

For their third and final game of the day, the Lady Bears took on the Leonard Lady Tigers. The Lady Tigers swept the Lady Bears in two sets, with scores of 20-25 and 22-25.

These results placed the Lady Bears in the silver bracket.

Two days later, Aug. 24, the Lady Bears resumed play in the tournament against the North Hopkins JV team. The Lady Bears cruised to an easy sweep, with set scores of 25-12 and 25-3.

The Lady Bears then played the Dodd City Lady Hornets. In a tightly contested game, the Lady Bears emerged victorious in three sets, with scores being 1625, 25-21 and 25-23. This win propelled the Lady Bears into the silver bracket championship game.

In the championship game, the Lady Bears squared off against the Valley View Lady Eagles. The Lady Bears earned the silver bracket title with a twoset victory. Set scores were 25-21 and 25-22.

With these results, the Lady Bears improved to 7-7 on the season. They resumed action Tuesday, traveling to Wolfe City to take on the Wolfe City Lady Wolves.
