    Hodges tallies 18 assists

    The Sulphur Springs Lady Wildcats picked up their second consecutive win Tuesday by sweeping the Como-Pickton Lady Eagles at home. Over the course of the game, the Lady Wildcats outplayed the Lady Eagles at many opportunities and never let their guard down, coming up with a sweep in their final non-district game of the season.

    The first set began with the Lady Wildcats jumping out to a 4-1 advantage. From there, the Lady Eagles picked up some steam, embarking on a 6-3 scoring run, knotting the score up at 7-7.

    The Lady Wildcats then caught fire, scoring eight straight points to pull ahead 15-7. A 3-3 exchange from both teams ensued, bringing the score to 18-10.

    After that, the Lady Wildcats went on a 6-1 scoring run to extend their lead to 24-11. Though the Lady Eagles managed another point, that only delayed the inevitable, as the Lady Wildcats scored the final point soon after, winning the first set 25-12 and taking the lead.

    The second set began with the Lady Eagles jumping out to a commanding 7-1 lead early on. Following a timeout, the Lady Wildcats found their rhythm, rattling off an 11-1 scoring run to take a 12-8 lead.

    The Lady Eagles responded with a 4-1 scoring run afterwards, trimming the deficit to 13-12. The Lady Wildcats then answered back with 10-2 scoring run, increasing their lead to 23-14. Though the Lady Eagles were able to managed two more points, that once again delayed the inevitable, as the Lady Wildcats capped the set off with the last two points, winning 2516 and extending their lead to 2-0.

    The third set opened with the Lady Wildcats establishing a 6-1 lead in the early going. The Lady Eagles then scored two quick points to cut the score to 6-3.

    The Lady Wildcats then embarked on a 7-1 scoring run, increasing their lead to 13-4. A quick 2-1 scoring run from the Lady Eagles made the score 14-6.

    A 7-3 scoring run by the Lady Wildcats brought the score to 21-9. This was followed by a 3-1 scoring run by the Lady Eagles, who cut the score to 22-12.

    The Lady Wildcats then scored back-to-back points to extend their lead to 2412. After two more quick points by the Lady Eagles, the Lady Wildcats ended the game with the final point, winning the third set 25-14 and capping off the sweep.

    Harper Hodges came away with 18 assists and five digs. Trinity Jefferson led the team in digs with 11, adding nine assists, nine kills and eight aces, coming just shy of a triple-double in the process.

    Rainey Johnson recorded the most kills with 10, to go along with nine digs, two aces, one assist and one block, coming one dig short of a double-double. Aaliyah Cheatum finished with seven kills, three blocks and two digs.

    Peyton Taylor recorded seven digs, and Tessa Allen was right behind her with six. Lauren Dittrich finished with five digs.

    Preslee Hardy came up with four digs and two kills. Kaylee Carter totaled four digs, three kills and one assist.

    Other contributors to the victory include Amy Hurtado and Madison Jeter, three digs each; Alani Pruitt, three blocks, three digs and two kills; and Kyra Carter, two digs and one kill.

    With the win, the Lady Wildcats improved to 1910 on the season. They began district play Friday, traveling to Paris to face off against the North Lamar Pantherettes.
