The Sulphur Springs Lady Wildcats ended a two-game skid Friday by sweeping the Pittsburg Lady Pirates at home. Following two hard-fought sets, the Lady Wildcats put the game away with a dominant third set win, scoring their first district victory.
The opening set was closely contested, as each team played well early on. The Lady Wildcats would come out on top 25-17, establishing the early lead.
The second set was more of the same, as each continued to play strong. In the end, the Lady Wildcats picked up another set win, winning 25-18 and extending their lead to 2-0.
The Lady Wildcats took their game to another level in the third set, as the Lady Pirates couldn’t keep up with them. Sulphur Springs closed out the game with a 25-11 win in the third set, polishing off the sweep.
Trinity Jefferson recorded team highs in assists (16), digs (seven) and aces (five), adding six kills and two blocks. Rainey Johnson recorded the most kills with 13, to go along with five digs, three blocks, one ace and one assist.
Harper Hodges was a strong presence with 11 assists, three digs and one kill. Kyra Carter totaled six kills, one ace and one block.
Preslee Hardy finished with six digs, three kills and three blocks. Aaliyah Cheatum recorded four kills, three blocks, two aces, two digs and one assist.
Madison Jeter tallied four digs. Kaylee Carter totaled three blocks and one dig.
Other contributors to the win include Tessa Allen, two digs and one ace; Alani Pruitt, two blocks; Lauren Dittrich, one assist and one dig; and Peyton Taylor, one ace.
With the win, the Lady Wildcats improved to 1-2 in district and 20-12 overall. They resumed action Tuesday, traveling to Paris to face off against the Paris Lady Wildcats.
