SULPHUR BLUFF — The Sulphur Bluff Lady Bears picked up a huge home win Friday, taking down the No. 6 Dodd City Lady Hornets in five sets. Throughout the game, the Lady Bears played hard and tough, and halted a late comeback attempt by the Lady Hornets.
The first set was dominated by the Lady Bears, as the Lady Hornets struggled to find their footing early on. Sulphur Bluff cruised to a 25-13 win, taking the early lead.
The second set was more closely contested, as the Lady Hornets began playing better. Dodd City ultimately won the second set 25-18, tying the score at 1-1.
The third set saw both teams continue to play hard and tough, showing no signs of slowing down. The Lady Bears went on to win the third set 25-19, pulling ahead 2-1.
The fourth set was yet another high-scoring affair, as the Lady Bears tried to put the game away, while the Lady Hornets fought to stay alive. In the end, Dodd City came out on top 25-19, tying the score at 2-2 and forcing a decisive fifth set.
The final set was also high-scoring, as both teams desperately wanted to win. When the dust settled, the Lady Bears came out on top, winning 15-11 and capping off a thrilling fiveset victory.
Madi Collett led the way with a 23-assist, 12dig double-double, adding three aces and three kills. Ana Servin led in digs with 17, adding two assists.
Zaylee Peyton had a great game with 11 digs, nine kills, three aces and two blocks, falling one kill short of a double-double. Emily Melton also tallied 11 digs.
Emerson Fite recorded eight kills, two blocks and one dig. Natalie Carrell totaled eight digs and one ace.
Emma Carr finished with five digs and four kills. Yulisa Castillo came up with four blocks and three kills.
Also contributing to the win were Vada Kendall, three digs; and Kinder Stanley, three kills.
With the win, the Lady Bears improved to 11-14 on the season. They resumed action Tuesday, traveling to Leonard to take on the Leonard Lady Tigers.
