Sulphur Springs ISD Board of Trustees accepted seven resignations from current staff members and approved 11 new hires at the June board meeting, held Tuesday, June 11 at the SSISD Administration Building.
Resignations
Mistie Davison is leaving her position as a first grade teacher at Rowena Johnson Primary.
Megan Postlehwait, an aide at Sulphur Springs Elementary School, will be leaving the district as well.
The three teachers leaving Sulphur Springs Middle School. They are: Kayla Gentry, who teaches seventh grade math; Thelma Hodges, who teaches eighth grade science; and Brynn Offut, who teaches eighth grade English.
Danielle Lopez, a teacher at Austin Academic Center, is leaving the district to become Cumby Collegiate ISD’s first-ever junior high school principal.
Finally, Imelda Smith, a bilingual diagnostician with SSISD Special Services, will also leave the district.
New Employees
Joining the administrative team are Melissa Bennett, who will be SSISD’s math and science coordinator, and Kelly Bradley, a new tax clerk.
Paulina Cantu will join the staff at Bowie Primary as a Title 1 aide, and Britni Johnson will be a kindergarten teacher there.
Kristi Harrison will be a kindergarten teacher at Rowena Johnson Primary.
Stacy Gant will be a special education aide at Sulphur Springs Elementary.
Sulphur Springs Middle School will welcome four new staff members. Benjamin Ross will be the new principal. Lisseth Carmona will be SSMS’ new receptionist, and Sharee Carpenter will be the new registrar. Maria de Santiago will be an emerging bilingual aide.
Meghan Gerald will be Sulphur Springs High School’s new art teacher.
New teachers will report for orientation Thursday and Friday. Aug. 1-2. Present staff will return Monday, Aug. 5 for inservice and preparation for the 2024-2025 school year. The first day of school will be Monday, Aug. 19, 2024.
