    Free concert to begin at 8 p.m. June 29 on Celebration Plaza, fireworks to follow

    The 32nd Annual Independence Day Concert and Firework Extravaganza, presented by Sulphur Springs Symphony League, is one of Hopkins County’s most beloved events.

    This Saturday, June 29, Celebration Plaza will be filled for the event, which draws people of all ages for both the music and the fireworks show to follow.

    The event is free to the public, thanks to underwriters Alliance Bank, GSC Enterprises Inc., CHRISTUS Trinity Mother rances-Sulphur Springs The fireworks will be launched from a new location this year — the Alliance Bank drive-thru — so they’ll travel higher and be more visible.

    Symphony League President Bill Owens will serve as emcee for the concert.

    This year’s concert theme is “American Liberty: Our Military’s Sacrifice for Freedom.' Dr. Douglas Bakenhus will again conduct the Symphony concert, which will feature patriotic numbers based on the then.

    Northeast Texas Symphony Orchestra is comprised of musicians from Sulphur Springs, Commerce and Texas A & M University–Commerce, along with individuals from the Dallas and Fort Worth Symphony Orchestras.

    In addition to the Independence Day concert, the Sulphur Springs Symphony League presents an annual children’s concert for Hopkins County third, fourth and fifth graders. Earlier this year, they brought the traveling troupe from the Dallas Opera to Sulphur Springs with a performance for Sulphur Springs Middle School students.

    Sulphur Springs Symphony League members will be on hand at this year’s concert and fireworks show to answer questions about the organization and provide information on how to support this community treasure as a member or event sponsor.     The Hopkins County Republican Party will also have a booth on Celebration Plaza, where attendees can register to vote in upcoming elections and receive a free balloon for their children Saturday.
