    Lady Wildcats finish tied for ninth

    AUSTIN — Now that softball season is in the books, the Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA) has released their final polls for the 2024 softball season. Three Hopkins County schools — Sulphur Springs, Como-Pickton, and Saltillo — finished in the final rankings in their respective classifications.

    SULPHUR SPRINGS

    The Sulphur Springs Lady Wildcats, who ended the season as Regional Semifinalists, finished in an eight-way tie for ninth place in the 4A poll, along with Burkburnett, Dumas, Floresville, Robinson, Salado, Sealy and Van Alstyne.

    The Lady Wildcats enjoyed another successful season, where they finished with an overall record of 23-9-2. They finished as undefeated district champions, earning their sixth consecutive district championship and making their 16th straight playoff appearance.

    In the playoffs, they swept the Brownsboro Bearettes 2-0 in the Bi-District round (52, 12-0). From there, they took down the Ford Lady Panthers 10-3 in the Area round.

    After sweeping the Van Lady Vandals 2-0 in the Regional Quarterfinals (1-0, 7-5), the Lady Wildcats’ season ended in the Regional Semifinals with a 3-1 loss to the Aubrey Lady Chaparrals.

    COMO-PICKTON

    The Como-Pickton Lady Eagles, who ended the year as Regional Quarterfinalists, finished in a 16way tie for 17th place in the final polls, alongside Bosqueville, Charlotte, Chico, Colorado City, Denton, Ganado, Hico, Italy, Lxzatexo, Lipan, McLeod, Stamford, Sundown, Thrall, and Timpson.

    The Lady Eagles turned in another successful season, going 33-6 overall. Their efforts propelled them to a co-District championship alongside Alba-Golden, whom they defeated in a seeding game for the top seed in District 17-2A.

    In the playoffs, the Lady Eagles swept the Linden- Kildare Lady Tigers 2-0 in the Bi-District round (12-2, 13-5). From there, the Lady Eagles took down the Frankston Maidens 2-1 in the Area round (7-4, 2-8, 11-0), before they ultimately got swept by the McLeod Lady Longhorns 0-2 in the Regional Quarterfinals (511, 2-5).

    SALTILLO

    The Saltillo Lady Lions were tabbed an honorable mention on the final polls. Honorable mention was given to district championship teams who failed to make it to the Regional Quarterfinals.

    The Lady Lions finished as the champions of District 17-1A. In the playoffs, they lost 4-2 to the Bloomburg Lady Wildcats in the Bi-District round.

    Each team will look to improve in the off-season and make deeper playoff runs next season.
