Increasing Taxes And Minimum Wage In Washington Forcing Closure Of Pullman Movie Theater Complex
Increasing taxes in Washington is forcing the movie theater complex in Pullman to close. Corporate Pointe Developers announced Friday afternoon that the Pullman Village Centre Cinemas will close permanently on September 5th. The press release from the Pullman based development company states that the City of Pullman’s increasing property taxes and the increasing minimum wage in Washington is forcing the closure.
The Criminal Squirrels returns to Edmonds as part of Summer Concert series Aug. 18-22
The popular free Summer Concerts in the Park continues into week seven with three performances. On Sunday, Aug. 18, the Criminal Squirrel Orchestra performs at City Park at 3 p.m. The band dedicates the joy of music brings to the “squirrelly soul,” this up-tempo group was featured this past June at the annual Edmonds Arts Festival Main Stage. The City of Mountlake Terrace this week installed a new sign at Lake Balllinger informing the lake-goers that public access to the lake’s Edmount Island isn’t allowed. The sign installation came after firefighters were called to the island Aug. 4 to put out a vegetation fire, believed to have been started by a campfire. The island has been closed to the public since an illegal barbecue sparked a stubborn and smoky peat bog fire on the island in July 2009, with hundreds of thousands of gallons of lake water used to fight the fire.
