The top vote-getter in the Week 1 Hollis Wright Birmingham News football Player of the Week poll was an offensive threat rushing and receiving in a season-opening victory. Fultondale senior running back/strong safety Jeremiah Jackson finished with a big lead in the balloting, earning 7,284 of the 23,985 votes cast. The 5-foot-10, 180-pounder had 20 carries for 130 yards and scored on a 12-yard touchdown pass as the Wildcats beat Linden 34-26 on Friday.

GARDENDALE, AL – A dominating second half performance propelled to Gardendale Rockets to a 42-16 victory over the Pinson Valley Indians Friday night at Driver Stadium. Rockets quarterback, Deacon Dyer, set the tone early with a one yard dive into the endzone on the Rocket’s first offensive possession and bolted for a stunning 73-yard touchdown sprint late in the first quarter. He lit up the scoreboard again with a two yard rushing score midway through the fourth quarter.

SCOTTSBORO, Ala. — The defending state champion Cold Springs Eagles and Lady Eagles were in the field at the Scottsboro Invitational Saturday morning and both teams put together great performances. The Lady Eagles placed first in the small school race thanks in large part to top 10 finishes from Macie Huffstutler (2nd), Claire Huffstutler (4th), Paizley Whitlow (5th), Kynzlie Myrex (9th) and Hayla Watson (10th).
