SUMMERS COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Deputies were called to a shooting incident in Summers County and found 14 marijuana plants inside, along with a home and truck riddled with bullet holes.

At approximately 6:00 am on June 26, 2024, the Summers County Sheriff’s Department received a call to report to 629 Barger Springs Road regarding a person discharging a firearm.

While heading to the scene, Sheriff J.L. Faris received a call identifying the individual as Joel Thompson, after this referred to as the accused, and stating that he had allegedly shot someone.

Upon arrival at the residence, law enforcement officers called the accused out of his home. Sheriff J.L. Faris and WV State Trooper Z. Hatfield entered the house to search for any potential gunshot victims.

During the search, they discovered 14 marijuana plants being cultivated in the residence. Upon entering the home, I observed several expended shell casings of various calibers on the living room floor.

Additionally, several firearms were openly displayed on the kitchen counter, bedroom, and living room, all matching the calibers of the shell casings found. The back door of the residence and the accused’s truck were riddled with bullet holes from the reported shooting.

It is important to note that the accused’s residence is within 500 feet of other homes. The accused was subsequently arrested for cultivating marijuana and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling. These details are based on my investigation of the events that took place in Summers County , WV.
