UPDATE: (5 p.m. Friday, July 19) – West Virginia State Police have confirmed a body found in Summersville Lake is that of a Morgantown man who went missing in the area Sunday.

According to West Virginia State Police, the man has been identified as 44-year-old Scott David Saylor. He was first reported missing Monday, July 15 after he did not return home from a day trip he had taken to Summersville Lake. Troopers say he had not been heard from since Sunday afternoon.

WVSP says Saylor’s family told them they had received a message from him that he was going swimming prior to his disappearance. A ping of his cell phone showed it was located near the beach area at the lake.

His vehicle with a ticket permit stamped for 4:12 p.m. Sunday was found in that area. Troopers say they found his phone, along with a backpack, socks, shoes, towel and sunscreen, under a picnic table near the beach.

Troopers say they and West Virginia Division of Natural Resources officials worked with Search and Rescue and the Army Corp of Engineers to complete a search of the swimming area with boats and sonar.

On Friday morning, a boater found Saylor’s body in the water where he was last seen swimming. Troopers were notified and responded to the scene to recover the body with the Nicholas County Medical Examiner and additional first responders.

Saylor’s body is being taken to the West Virginia State Medical Examiner’s Office for a complete autopsy. Troopers say they do not suspect foul play, but the investigation into his death is still ongoing.

He says a medical examiner or coroner will have to identify the person.

On Sunday, a 44-year-old from Morgantown was taking a day trip to the area, and his family reported him missing when he did not come home.

Earlier this week at Sutton Lake in Braxton County , the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources recovered the body of a 25-year-old Charleston man who had gone under the water.
