Tears celebrated in home town
Marshall County proclaimed July 9, 2024, as Kavares Tears Day – a day that recognized Tears as an exceptional baseball player. Tears played a major part in the University of Tennessee’s baseball team winning the 2024 Men’s College World Series. As Tears neared the Lewisburg Square, the huge crowd clapped and cheered as the instrumental version of “Rocky Top” played. Photographs were taken with his fans and Tears autographed UT flags, baseballs, shirts, and other sports memorabilia – even a shoe! Mayor Mike Keny said a few words, along with Rep. Todd Warner, Tears’ high school baseball coach from Columbia Academy- Coach Rickie Estep, and Reverend Herbert Johnson led a prayer.

The Cookeville Police Department recognized Detective Alyssa Coppinger as the 2023 Officer Of The Year. Coppinger is a member of the SWAT team, Armor team, and Recruitment team.
