A large high school camping party caused some issues in Summit County over recent days.

According to the Summit County Sheriff's Office, deputies and a USFS ranger were present at the scene of the reported party, providing a high level of visibility in an effort to deter criminal behavior and to help spread education about proper fire safety best practices.

While interactions started out positive and deputies were initially thanked by parents for being there, the party was ultimately terminated due to numerous violations.

Violations included the lack of the permit that's required when more than 75 people gather. Deputies also reported that numerous liquor bottles were present and that a citation for marijuana consumption was given to one of the attendees.

Despite the party getting shut down, authorities found that it had once again started up at about 3 a.m., again growing to be "out of hand." It was shut down a second time.

It's important to note that the authorities weren't shutting down the party to prevent people from having fun – there are very real concerns related to large gatherings in wild areas, two being waste and fire risk. It's crucial to follow rules of the backcountry when camping in order to take care of the land and preserve it for future generations.
