SUMMIT, KY (WOWK) — A firefighter in Boyd County, Kentucky, lost his life Saturday morning following a motorcycle accident.

Summit-Ironville Fire Department firefighter and Boyd County Emergency Management Search and Rescue member Robert Alexander “Alex” Stoehr V, 31, of Summit, was in a motorcycle collision with a passenger car on State Route 5 and Straight Creek Road around 8 p.m. Friday evening.

According to Boyd County Coroner Mark Hammond, Stoehr was life flighted to St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, West Virginia, where he ultimately passed away.

Fire Chief Chris Porter sent a statement to 13 News saying:

“Alex “was a great friend to many people. He was compassionate about what he done at Summit Ironville Fire Department and Boyd County Search and Rescue. He was a mentor to our younger members and was eager to teach them how things work and special skills we use at the fire department. He’s going to be a tough one to beat. Filling his shoes will be difficult. “Rest easy Brother, we will take it from here.”

The Preston Family Funeral Home said in a Facebook post that contributions may be made in Alex’s memory to the Summit-Ironville Fire Department.
