SUMMIT, NJ -- A local man and woman are facing felony charges after being accused of stealing $10,000 worth of supplies from a gardening store in Westchester County, NY on Sunday, July 7.
Summit residents James Kralovich, age 39, and Olivia Barbarito, age 29, were arrested on Friday, July 19 in connection with a burglary at Mangone's Garden Center in Mamaroneck, the Village of Mamaroneck Police Department announced on Sunday, July 21.
On early Sunday morning, July 7, video surveillance showed a man and a woman stealing $10,000 worth of trees, flowers and landscaping materials.
“They were here shopping approximately five hours and shopping like they were at Walmart,” owner Rick Mangone told WCBS-NY news. “They had my carts, my wagons loaded to the gills with merchandise.”
Mamaroneck Police then arrived and began an investigation using technology and video surveillance, which soon led them to a suspect that was identified and police began surveilling their New Jersey home with help from the Summit Police Department, authorities said.
The accused burglars then began selling the merchandise at the house in Summit, located near Middle Ave and Broad Street, according to reports.
According to Mamaroneck Police, the suspects were then apprehended on Friday, July 19, on criminal possession of stolen property and fugitive charges and arraigned in court before they were brought to the Union County Jail in Elizabeth, New Jersey. They were eventually brought to New York on Friday and charged with three felony counts.
