A Wisconsin snowbird who was arrested earlier this year after drinking beer and then driving a golf cart has gotten a break in court in a drunk driving case. John Rubatt, 68, of Menomonee Falls, Wis. has been placed on probation for six months after pleading no contest this past week in Sumter County Court to a charge of reckless driving, reduced from a charge of driving under the influence. He also pleaded no contest to charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug equipment.
Annual School Supply Drive Returns to The Villages
The fifth annual Sumter County Public Schools Supply Drive is returning for three days in The Villages. Since 2020, the drive has supported students from low-income families, raising thousands of dollars worth of school supplies and donations. Last year, over $35,000 worth of school supplies were donated, as well as over $9,700 in monetary donations.
Pair arrested after switching seats moments before traffic stop
Two drivers, both with suspended licenses, wound up in jail after switching seats moments before a traffic stop. A deputy ran the license plate of a gray Ford F-150 at about 9:30 p.m. Thursday and discovered the vehicle’s registered owner, 31-year-old Brittany Ann Northington of Bushnell, has a suspended driver’s license, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. Northington was arrested in April on a charge of driving under the influence.

Speeding driver late for work facing charge of vehicular homicide
A driver who feared being late for work is facing a charge of vehicular homicide in connection with a high-speed crash that claimed the life of a Webster man. Alberto Rodriguez, 52, of Dade City, was arrested this week as a result of the crash in January that claimed the life of 49-year-old Thurman Preston McBee.
