An unlicensed driver from Mexico was arrested after he was caught behind the wheel. Miguel Angel Soto Garcia, 24, of Bushnell, was driving a black passenger vehicle shortly before 5 p.m. Wednesday in Bushnell when a deputy ran the vehicle’s license plate and discovered the registered owner does not have a valid driver’s license, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

A New Yorker was arrested after he couldn’t produce a prescription for pills found during a traffic stop in the southern end of The Villages. Joseph Bolanos, 28, of Bayside, N.Y. was driving a black 2003 Hyundai passenger car on Tuesday night when he ran a stop sign and a traffic stop was initiated on Bexley Trail, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. Bolanos was identified by his New York driver’s license.

Grants could ease pain of costly septic conversion in Lake Panasoffkee
Lake Panasoffkee residents and Sumter County officials may find out next month whether grants are available to help fund a costly centralized sewer system in the community. County Administrator Bradley Arnold suggested a workshop could be held the last week of August for representatives of the Florida Government Utility Authority (FGUA) to present information to commissioners about financing for the project, estimated to cost as much as $40,000 per household.
