Banner Olive Branch Senior Center, 13049 N. 103rd Ave., is hosting a Living with Low Vision event noon-2 p.m. Thursday, March 28. No reservations are required.

Speaker Tom Perski, former vice president of the Chicago Lighthouse Program, will offer residents information about vision. This includes the number one cause of low vision, incidence of Mascular Degeneration, securing personal medical information, questions to ask an eye doctor and improving function vision.

A low vision social group also meets 12:30-2 p.m. the fourth Monday of the month at the Banner Olive Branch Senior Center.

“This is not a support group, but a social group that are all knowledgeable and share new technology assisted options for people to see easily,” said Jennifer Lawless, center director.

The group includes people who are blind or have low vision as they talk about the social components of that and the challenges, Lawless added.

“We have a long legacy of being here for the community and we are always trying to get resources that are meaningful for that people that live here,” Lawless explained.

She said the mission of the center to provide support for the community has not changed in 35. Center officials plan to continue to grow programs like this to support neighbors.
