The Doing Grief Community Healing Project will offer four arts and crafts workshops in April, including Drum Making and Drum Painting, Healing with Freeform Fiber Sculpting and The Healing Properties of Slow Stitching, offered by lifelong needleworker and retired pastor Jane Jones.

Jones found that slow stitching was just the activity she needed to heal in the months following a traumatic divorce. She continues to use slow stitching as a daily meditation practice and teaches others this simple, relaxing needlework craft.

“Sitting for a few minutes each day stitching on one four-inch square provides me quiet time to put out good energy to people I love,” Jones said, “to offer hopes for others in the world and to create something that makes me feel good about my life.”

Arts and crafts workshops at the Healing Project are intended for all experience levels and all supplies are provided. A suggested donation can be made online or at the door, but all are welcome to attend regardless of an ability to pay.

Upcoming workshop dates and times include:

    • Drum Making and Drum Painting, 3-5 p.m. Sundays, April 7 and 14, with minister, educator and poet Dr. Lydia Woods of Drum Arizona, Inc. Limited spots, registration required; suggested donation is $20-30.
    • The Healing Properties of Slow Stitching, 9:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 13, with artisan and educator Jones. Suggested donation: $5-10.
