Sun City Hikers hold spring meeting, picnic

The Sun City Hikers converged on Cave Creek Regional Park March 21 for their annual spring meeting and picnic. All A, B and C levels of hikers started off the day with hikes appropriate for their level of hiking prior to the potluck feast provided by the members.

Members told and re-told of memorable hikes from this past season, or in some cases seasons past. There was also a lot of planning for off season adventures.

Outgoing president Deb Frank called a meeting to order, went over old business and each of the club officers went over current business before proceeding to the election of new officers. With a quorum of members and a show of hands, current vice president Joette Conger was elected president and Dave Conklin as vice president; both were unanimously elected to serve a two-year term.

Karol Mabe, club treasurer, gave a talk on the club’s financial condition and recommended what the club dues should be going forward.

Hike chairperson Rod Frank spoke of the good job the current hike leaders had done and the need for more volunteers to step up and take part in making the club function as well as it has in the past. He also talked about the fall overnight hike location, which will be in Sierra Vista.

The club spent the first three days of April in Payson, gateway to the Mogollon rim, enjoying a variety of weather from snow and rain to sunshine and blue skies.

Those wishing to become a Sun City Hiker must be at least 55 years of age.
