    Former Sun City resident wins Emmy Award

    Valerie Woods, sister of Sun City resident Dr. Lydia A. Woods, recently won a National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Children’s & Family Emmy Award.

    Valerie Woods, herself a former resident of Sun City, is a writer/producer, publisher, editor and author. In 2022 she was a writer/co-executive producer on season one of the Disney+ series “The Crossover.”

    Woods’s career in the entertainment industry began after being awarded a fellowship with Walt Disney studios. Over the course of her 30 years in the entertainment industry, she has embarked on numerous projects such as developing MCV productions; becoming an instructor and adjunct faculty in the Stephens College Low-Residency MFA in TV and Screenwriting program (2016-2020); screenwriting mentor at the University of Georgia; founder of Independent Press, BooksEndependent; author of several books; and more than 25 years as a member of Writers Guild of America West. She has also written on one-hour drama series for CBS, Lifetime, Netflix, OWN and Showtime.
