Angels in the Outfield serve Sun City West and Sun City softball players and their families. One example is when a player passes away, there are ways Angels help members rally around the family in support during difficult times.

In addition to immediate care, Angels hosts an annual memorial service and a “Golden Oldies Game,” which is a time for those aged 77 and older to play and recognize their camaraderie, past and present. Tait Douglas, 96, threw out the first pitch of the most recent game.

The memorial service includes a time of reflection, anecdotes told by family and friends, accompanied by music, and a spiritual message.

This season’s event was March 25 at Liberty Field in Sun City West, where 14 players and four player partners who died in 2023-24 were remembered with the 150 attendees. The games were organized by Larry Chapman and the service and message given by Pastor Steve Starr. Angels in the Outfield and Dottie Johnson served appetizers afterward during a time of hospitality.
