    Octogenarian tournament concludes in Sun City

    The Ladies Octogenarian Tournament of 2024 recently concluded with 72 competitors. To qualify for this tournament, players must have been age 80 or older. Five women in their nineties played during the event held at the Quail Run Golf Course, 9703 N. Sun Valley Drive.

    Starting April 8, the ladies played nine holes and finished April 12 playing another nine holes. Both days started with a 7:45 registration, a continental breakfast, announcements and an 8:45 a.m. call to carts with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. Lunch was provided on the last day with Italian beef sandwiches from Portillo’s.

    The grand champion of this year’s event was Mary Lou Grooms with a score of 71. Barb Bough was the low net champion with a score of 52.

    The ladies in Nifty Nineties (age 90 and older) also had winners with Joanne Emmett shooting an 88 and Alida Borsuk winning a low net with a score of 60.

    The closest-to-the-line winners were Ida Rexes and Peggy Quirk. Closest to the hole on 1 were Sharon Leve and Roma Roehr.

    The closest to the pin winners on hole 7 were Barb Davies and Judy Appel. Longest putt on hole 8 were Sue Bashford and Linda Walker.
