Sun City Zumba Club donates to food bank

Volunteers and staff from the Valley View Community Food Bank, 10771 W. Peoria Ave., recently accepted four shopping carts of food from the Sun City Zumba Club.

This was the result of a recent Mother’s Day food drive by Zumba club members, where 412 food items including canned goods, pasta, and cereal were collected during the week-long event.

“This was a nice way to honor moms, and help the community at the same time,” said Zumba President Jan Taylor, who also mentioned this food drive has become an annual event for the Zumba club and this year was the most food items collected by the club. The 412 food items translate to 618 pounds for food for families in need.

The Valley View Community Food Bank is the largest in the Northwest Valley. There has been a 65% or greater increase in new families and individuals experiencing food insecurity. Services are not income or zip code dependent and food boxes are available to anyone in need.

The Sun City Zumba club has 357 members with 10 weekly classes that offer exercise by either sitting, standing, dancing or swimming.
