Sun City residents can attend Caregiver Boot Camp

Benevilla’s new Caregiver Boot Camp, an 11-session educational series designed to empower caregivers and enhance their support, will start June 3. The series is free and open to the public.

Caregivers can get expert guidance, gain insights and learn about practical tools available to assist them with the issues they may be facing.

“Benevilla is excited to partner with so many local senior services experts willing to share their knowledge and support our aging population in the Northwest valley,” said Benevilla President and CEO Joanne Byers. “Today, 30-60% of caregivers pass from illnesses related to caregiver stress before the person they are caring for. That’s why getting family caregivers this type of specialized support and information is crucial for our aging communities and their families.”

The classes will be offered over an 11-week period. Each week there will be a different topic. These include “Basic Caregiver Skills” and “Nutrition and Meal Planning” as well as “Managing Cognitive Behavioral Changes, “Home Safety and Assistive Devices” and “Legal and Financial Planning.”

Classes will be 9:30-10:30 a.m. on the first and third Monday of the month at the Peoria Community Center, 8335 W. Jefferson St., and 10-11 a.m. on the first and third Tuesday of the month at Home Instead, 15003 W. Bell Road, Suite 150.

The presenters are members of the Benevilla C.A.R.E.S. “Preferred Partners” program consisting of more than 20 local senior services providers Benevilla has formed partnerships with.
