The Sun City National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, Agua Fria Chapter, met after its monthly meeting to review and discuss the “Founding Mothers” book by Cokie Roberts. Discussion was led by the Chapter Secretary Carol Finch.

The book is about how some of the mothers and wives of America’s founding fathers — George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, James Warren, Nathanial Greene, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin — played an important role in supporting the founders during the American Revolution and creating a new government.

Abigail Adams told her husband to remember the ladies when making the laws of the new government. Washington said ladies were the best patriots.

The many responsibilities and challenges that these women faced during the war were also discussed.

“America’s First Daughter,” by Stephanie Dray, will be the next book to be reviewed in October, which is about Thomas Jefferson’s eldest daughter, Martha “Patsy” Jefferson Randolph.
