Sun City Home Owners Association (SCHOA) is responsible for overseeing critical functions that directly impact the well-being of our residents - providing fair and consistent application of the CC&R’s that protect our property values, safety and quality of life, protecting the age overlay and advocating for pro-senior legislation.

You only need to look at SCHOA’s history to realize their importance for each of us. SCHOA was instrumental in fighting against the full consolidation of water and sewer rates. We would each be paying local school taxes (several hundred dollars each year) were it not for their protection of the age overlay. SCHOA has been here since the start, and even played a lead role in bringing light poles and fire hydrants as safety necessities to the community. The role of SCHOA may evolve as our community has, but its significance grows.

SCHOA needs your help. Like other community-run organizations, SCHOA relies on local members to direct these important decisions as members of a board of directors. Now is the time for you to step up and serve a term or two for the good of Sun City.

The requirements are few, with the most important being an interest in Sun City and its future and being a member of SCHOA. This is a free offer with a little time investment for rewards of fun, learning, and feeling good for helping your neighbors.

Being a director is not very time-consuming, but very rewarding. I value my memories and take pride in the difference I made during my time on the board. You will learn a lot about the organizations that make Sun City work so well without a city government.

Ritchie Miller is a former member of the SCHOA board of directors
