Voting for the Recreation Centers of Sun City West governing board’s three available seats will start next month.

Residents have the option to vote online or at the R.H. Johnson Library’s Data Resource Center, 13801 W. Meeker Blvd. Homebound residents can also call 623-544-6110.

Eight candidates are vying for the three seats, including Ronald Aames, John Chattin, Rudy Grom, Dennis Horvath, Wilburn “Bud” Meador, Doris “Dori” Miller, Jolene Piaskowski and Nick Turner.

Board President Lisa Vines and directors Terry Hamman and Harry Stannebein’s terms are ending June 30.

Owner members in good standing are eligible to vote. Neither tenants and associates are able to vote. Owner members must have their own email address to vote online. Owner members who own more than one property will vote only once and that vote will be multiplied based on the number of properties owned.

The deadline for owner members to register for online voting or request homebound voting is 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 13. Voting begins at 8 a.m. Monday, March 18, and ends 3 p.m. Thursday, March 21.

Candidates will participate in a forum as well as a meet and greet prior to the election. The candidate forum will be 9 a.m.-noon Wednesday, March 6, at the R.H. Johnson Lecture Hall, 19803 R.H. Johnson Blvd., and will stream live on the Sun City West YouTube Channel, youtube.com/user/suncitywestaz.

A meet and greet is from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, at the R.H. Johnson Social Hall, 19803 R.H. Johnson Blvd.

Election day is Monday, March 25. Owner members can vote from 10 a.m to 3 p.m. at the R.H. Johnson Library’s Data Resource Center.

    Parking referendum

Another question will be on the ballot regarding a change in state law whether RCSCW can continue enforcing covenants, conditions and restrictions related to street parking, unless residents reaffirm it.

RCSCW officials stated on the election website another bill, House Bill 2470, is pending with the legislature in the current session that would eliminate the ability of all homeowners associations and planned communities to regulate parking, regardless of an affirmative vote by the community and is still in the legislative committee phase.
