The ladies of the Sonora Chapter of the Colonial Dames of the 17th Century gathered March 27 at Grandview Terrace, in Sun City West, for their monthly meeting.

The speaker was President Lillian Schauer, who discussed the “History of the Sewing Machine,” spanning the 1840s until the 1960s. Schauer brought her 84-year-old Singer Featherweight sewing machine for the program. The machine still sews perfectly and can be serviced easily at home.

The Sonora Chapter will have another meeting April 24 and will then take a summer break before the October meeting. The speaker for the April meeting will be president of the Sun City Chapter of Rosie the Riveters and member of Anasazi Chapter DAR Barbara Cook, who will speak of her work with the National Cemetery in Glendale as a service coordinator.

The Sonora Chapter will also host the Colonial Dames State Conference in February, 2025. Planning for the conference is already in progress.
