For the club’s Cinco de Mayo eve party, Rip ’N’ Sew members signed up to bring tortillas, taco meat, cheese, salsa, guacamole, olives and everything else to top their street-style tacos. Others brought margarita fixings and whatever else they thought would make the party pop.

Cinco de Mayo is a yearly celebration of Mexico’s 1862 victory over the Second French Empire at the Battle of Puebla.

Dianne Repsholdt, who attended the Sun City West club’s party, said it “brought in many members with spicy-good food and free-flowing margaritas.”

Jolene Piaskowski organized the event and supervised the buffet.

“I met members and visitors that I did not know, as well as chatted with long-time members Joan Hardy and Robyn Reynolds,” Repsholdt said.

Diana Warren said she had a good time at the party, but her experience was different from Repsholdt’s.

Warren joined Rip ’N’ Sew about six weeks ago and only knows a few other members. Repsholdt has been a member for several years.

Warren said she “met a few people,” including Eva Weisberg, a Rip ’N’ Sew member Warren knew through the Computer Club.

“At the margarita table, I talked to a gentleman about technology,” including computer spam, identity theft and phishing, Warren said.
