The Sun Health Foundation partnered with Banner Del E. Webb to host a May 16 groundbreaking for the expansion of the Women and Infant Services. The expansion includes two new OB recovery spaces, a PACU (post anesthesia care unit) adjacent to the labor and delivery rooms so mothers can rest and recover with their newborn and an update to the OB triage unit, used for mothers in various stages of labor to assess their care needs.

The Sun Health Foundation raises money to help support expansions like this at both Banner Del E. Webb and Banner Boswell medical centers in the West Valley.

“We are proud to fund this expansion,” said Nora Hannah, chief engagement officer, Sun Health. “Our community’s female population is projected to grow 25% by 2030. We are committed to staying ahead of the evolving healthcare needs of women and newborns ensuring that every family has access to the safest, most advanced maternal and infant care.”

The expansion will allow for an even safer post-surgical care for patients and state-of-the-art triage capabilities. It will also allow the hospitals to bring in more mothers who need a scheduled induction to deliver their new family member. The expansion should be complete and operational in spring 2025.

“We are so excited to once again partner with Sun Health to be able to raise the bar for women’s care in the Northwest Valley,” said Erica Dorward, chief operating officer, Banner Del E. Webb Medical Center. “This project will allow for even safer post-surgical care for our patients and state of the art triage capabilities. We have a true program of distinction here at Banner Del E Webb; we have moms who travel past other hospitals to be able to deliver their babies here with our home-like birth experience in the safety of a hospital setting.  We are thrilled to be able to expand on that program delivering exceptional care.”
