Lloyd, age 89, of Sun City West, passed away Monday, June 17, 2024 due to complications of coronary artery disease. Lloyd was born in Salmon Arm, British Columbia on April 8, 1935 to parents George and Ivy. Lloyd, and his two sisters, grew up on a farm in nearby Canoe, BC, before moving to Vancouver, BC, where he graduated in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of British Columbia in 1957.
Following graduation, Lloyd moved to Montreal, Quebec to join the pharmaceutical research staff at Charles E. Frosst & Co., which later merged with Merck & Co. Lloyd met his first wife Irene Kane while working for Frosst. They married in 1959 and had their son, Steven, the following year.
In 1977, Lloyd and family transferred to Rahway, NJ where he became Pharmaceutical Operations Manager for Merck. In 1984, Lloyd was promoted to Manager of Project Engineering; and then again in 1987, he was promoted to Director of Project Engineering. These positions gave Lloyd the opportunity to travel, setting up pharmaceutical production in countries including France, Italy, Egypt, Greece, Turkey, Columbia, and Japan, to name a few.
Following a divorce, Lloyd met his second wife Barbara Motley while working at Merck. They married in 1984. Lloyd retired in 1992 after 35 years at Merck. After living in the communities of Freehold, and then Woodbridge, NJ, Lloyd and Barbara retired to Dingmans Ferry, PA, then finally Sun City West, AZ.
In Sun City West, Lloyd and Barbara found their dream home and community. Following retirement Lloyd stayed active volunteering for the local foodbank, Sun City West Prides (community landscaping), Advent Episcopal Church, and Habitat for Humanity. It was Habitat for Humanity that Lloyd most enjoyed for more than 20 years, as a supporter, volunteer, and even six years as a member of the Board of Directors. During retirement, Lloyd continued to travel with Barbara; taking cruises; trips to China, Scotland, and Spain; and spending summers in Vancouver.
Preceded in death, are his parents George and Ivy, and wife Barbara. Lloyd is survived by his son Steven, grandchildren Steven Michael and Marissa, his sister Marlene, sister Elaine, nephew David, and niece Janice, as well as several members of Barbara’s family including stepson Randy, and niece Donna.
A memorial service will be held at the Advent Episcopal Church, 13150 W Spanish Garden Drive, Sun City West, AZ 85375 on Saturday, September 7th at 11.00 A.M. In lieu of flowers, donations to Habitat for Humanity or the Advent Episcopal Church in Sun City West would be appreciated.
Please join the family in sharing memories, pictures or videos of Lloyd on his tribute wall at www.caminodelsol.com.
