The Cycles of Kindness program is in a successful cycle since its kickoff in May when Desert Garden United Church of Christ (DGUCC) launched the program with the Sun City West Cyclist Club.

The purpose of the program is to provide free bicycles to community members having transportation needs.

The Mission Outreach team at DGUCC collects donated bikes and contacts community agencies to determine needs. Members of the cyclist club make any necessary repairs.  To date 68 bikes have been donated and 28 given to recipients through various agencies.  Two bikes went to the West Valley Assistance Center, five to Thomas Ranch Elementary School, eight to Home Base Shelter, and 13 to Surprise Elementary School.

Currently, 10 bicycles are being repaired to be given to Kingswood Elementary School by the end of July.

The church also provides a free helmet and lock to all recipients. Anyone wants to donate a bike can drop it off at DGUCC, 18818 N. 128 TH Ave,   If the bike needs to be picked up, call 623-584-1795.

In commenting on the program, the church’s pastor, the Rev. Bill Utke said, “This program is a good example of meeting needs through the cooperation of church, community clubs, agencies, and friends and neighbors.  We intend to continue the program providing donations and needs continue.”
